Ford Raptor vs Ram Rebel

Ford Raptor, Ram Rebel Comparison

Ford introduced the F-150 Raptor for the 2010 model year, and it has enjoyed a lengthy, successful production run with limited to no direct competition. The Raptor is not a post-production add-on or upfit package, it's a purely production based performance vehicle. Ram Truck's Ram 1500 Rebel model was introduced for the 2015, bridging the gap between the performance off-road and traditional pickup segments. But how does the Ram Rebel stack up against Ford's 2nd generation, aluminum bodied F-150 Raptor?

Note - specifications are for Hemi V-8 equipped Ram Rebel and SuperCrew Ford Raptor. The V-6 Rebel and SuperCab Raptor have been omitted for the sake of constructing a fair comparison.

Ford's Raptor carries obvious advantages in terms of capability and off-road performance, while the Ram 1500 Rebel maintains more traditional pickup features such as towing and payload ratings. Both offer unique styling and features that indicate neither truck is a pavement queen, however the Raptor brings much more excitement to the prospect of hitting the trail - 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, for example. Meanwhile, the Rebel offers more attractive (and more practical) fuel economy at a slightly lower entrance price. While the Raptor is only available with the High Output EcoBoost engine, the Rebel comes standard with Chrysler's 305 horsepower Pentastar V-6. While that's great for fuel economy, whose really going to pass up the 400 horsepower Hemi?

Speaking of Hemi, Ram's current Rebel pickup is merely a precursor to a much more capable, more invigorating Ram Rebel TRX. The concept, whose namesake "TRX" obviously aims to trump Ford's "Raptor", features a 575 horsepower supercharged 6.2L Hemi V-8. While Ram claims the truck is coming, it's simply a concept for now and the finalized specifications for the production vehicle have yet to be released. In fact, Ram reminds us that all the currently advertised specifications, including engine horsepower, are subject to change for the production version. Also noteworthy, the TRX is being toted as a "limited edition" vehicle, so its production will likely be limited and its price tag significantly greater than that of the Raptor. Regardless, we're anxious to see Ram's upcoming challenger to the Ford F-150 Raptor.
