4.6L & 5.4L Cylinder Diagram
Cylinder Numbers, Bank 1 & Bank 2 Location
Trouble codes often return a particular cylinder number of engine bank (left or right side of the engine), so being able to identify these locations is imperative to many diagnostics - the map below identifies these locations for a 4.6L or 5.4L V-8.
Which side of the engine is bank 1?
Bank 1 is the passenger side of a 4.6L/5.4L V-8, cylinders 1 through 4.
Which side of the engine is bank 2?
Bank 2 is the driver side of a 4.6L/5.4L V-8, cylinders 5 through 8.
What the numbers (layout) of the cylinders?
Starting at the front, passenger side, the cylinder closest to the radiator is #1. The cylinder directly behind it is #2, then #3, and finally #4 is located against the passenger side firewall. From the front, driver side, the cylinder closest to the radiator is #5. The cylinder directly behind it is #6, then #7, and finally #8 is located against the driver side firewall.
