BorgWarner T-18 Manual Transmission

T-18 Transmission Specs, Ratio, ID Information

The Borg-Warner T-18 is a heavy duty, top loaded transmission used in a number of Ford, Jeep, and International Harvester vehicles. Ford pickups with the T-18 transmission had a 6.32 : 1 first gear, while heavier trucks from 1967 to 1972 used the T18B model, which had a taller (and rare) 4.32 : 1 ratio (the pickup version is much more common and popular). Jeep vehicles got either the 6.32 or a 4.02 :1 first gear. Gears two through four are helical cut and fully synchronized, while first and reverse are spur cut and not synchronized. The shift pattern changed in 1979 as a revised shift fork was introduced.
