Ford 2.7L EcoBoost V-6

2.7L EcoBoost Specs and Information

The success of Ford's 3.5L EcoBoost undoubtedly played a key role in the development of the smaller, 2.7L EcoBoost. While part of the V-6 EcoBoost engine family, the 2.7L shares very little its larger sibling. The 2015 aluminum Ford F-150 proved to be the perfect platform to welcome the innovative new engine to the Ford family. Once again proving that forced induction can adequately offset inherently lower performance characteristics of a small displacement engine, the twin turbocharged EcoBoost peaks at 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. A CGI engine block, composite intake manifold, and aluminum cylinder heads build upon the F-150's weight saving theme without compromising structural integrity.

Displacing a mere 165 cubic inches, the 2.7L EcoBoost produces a considerable amount of horsepower and torque at full bore thanks to a pair of turbochargers. The 2.7L EcoBoost is obviously not the first choice for the truck buyer who needs big tow ratings, but it will provide a more efficient option for individuals who want the ability to tow occasionally yet desire a more efficient engine for everyday use. For its size, the mini-EcoBoost is rated to tow/haul a considerable amount of heft. Additionally, the 2.7L EcoBoost comes standard with Ford's automatic start-stop function. Beginning the 2018 model year, Ford's 10R80 10 speed automatic transmission became standard on all 2.7L EcoBoost equipped Ford F-150s.

2.7L EcoBoost Features

• Fractured main bearing caps, individual piston cooling jets, offset I-beam connecting rods.

• Topside engine mounted cartridge style oil filter for quick, easy service.

• Aluminum cylinder heads with integrated, water cooled exhaust manifolds.

• Composite intake manifold, variable intake and exhaust camshaft timing.

• Standard automatic start-stop technology; engine shutdowns when truck is brought to a stop, quickly starts up when accelerator is depressed.

• Compacted graphite iron (CGI) engine block, cast from the same material as Ford's 6.7L Power Stroke diesel.

• Despite its relatively high compression ratio, the 2.7L EcoBoost is completely compatible with regular 87 octane gasoline.

• Direct injection eliminates the risk of detonation (ping/knocking) under extreme load and pressure.
